Concept
The concept of Y ruler come from ancient Brass Goniometer, a device that help to orient something at a specific angle in space while measuring the angle. Nowadays most of the Goniometers are made of plastic with a rotatable nail which connect the body and arm. Although the fulcrum of Goniometer is easy to move around, it is hard to fix at certain point firmly for drawing and measuring. This is why Yuan Design Studio re-design this tool to be more refined and durable.
Design
The body and arm of Y ruler is engraved from same block of aluminum, light but strong. The magnetic system embedded in Y ruler connects the parts together and the hinge design allows Y ruler rotate smoothly and also stay firmly when user want to do drawing at certain angle. You will find well balance of movement when un/folding the Y ruler.
Unlike the normal ruler, we enlarged the hinge of Y ruler and a glass with engraved center point is fixed inside it. By turning the enlarged hinge, you can find precise angle and marking center point effortlessly which a normal Protractor couldn't do it. The clear glass part inside the hinge will not hinder users' sight while drawing.
One arm of Y ruler is engraved with 12 cm while the other is engraved 5 inch for measuring. Also, 24 holes design is added on Y ruler as a corner rounder tool for 60 mm - 290 mm in diameter.
